Steve was a pastor in Sioux falls, SD for over 21 years. He also served in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Big Bend, WI. Steve graduated from North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Steve's wife, Janet, has been a wonderful support in the ministry. Steve was ordained at First Baptist Church in Jackson Hole, WY shortly after graduation from the Seminary. They moved to Wisconsin as they felt strongly that God wanted them to help their son Mike and his wife Sonya as they had their third child all under the age of 21 months (previously they had twins)! OK.......... Being a life long Packer fan and having a love for Wisconsin lakes factored in it too (somewhat)! Steve and Janet have another son Joel. Joel and his wife Haley are newlyweds who live in Red Lodge, MT. Joel is a paramedic for Red Lodge. They have a daughter Brittany who is married to (that's right) another Steve. Steve is a missionary pilot in Central Asia (MAF). Brittany serves in woman's ministry.
Steve and Janet both came from small rural congregations. (NE Iowa and N. Minnesota) They felt God's itch for years to serve in a rural setting. They are active in hunting, fishing, and many other outdoor activities, but that aside they love rural culture and believe God needs servants in rural missions. They were examining the possibility of serving Baptist Churches in need of Interim ministry when Janet saw the Hickory Church listing. Hickory Church reminded her of Pine Lake Chapel, Aitkin, MN where her family attended. They decided to explore and see if God opened this door. A couple visits along with pulpit supply brings us to this occasion, but above it all, God is the one who gives the call and God is the one who anoints us in ministry. We pray to that end!
God moves in mysterious ways! The verse that Steve and Janet have claimed for this adventure has been:
Proverbs 3: 5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
We covet your prayers during these days of challenge and change. We hope to join you very soon. God bless!
